On a rainy day, a stray cat scratched desperately at the door of an old man’s house and meowed loudly: when the man opened the door and finally understood the reason for the cat’s strange behavior, he was completely shocked

Outside, a violent storm was raging. Thunder boomed so loudly that the windows shook, and lightning tore across the sky in blinding flashes. The deserted streets looked unusual: everyone had taken shelter inside their homes to escape the fury of the weather.
Only a few passersby, clutching their umbrellas, hurried through puddles, trying to get home as quickly as possible.
Amid this chaos appeared a cat. Her striped fur was completely soaked, water dripping from her ears and whiskers, and her big, shining eyes — full of despair — pleaded silently with the passersby.
She looked lost and exhausted, as if something terrible had happened to her. But no one paid attention: people rushed past, hidden beneath their umbrellas. One man even kicked her aside irritably before disappearing into an alley.
The cat let out a pitiful meow and, trembling, approached the nearest door. She rose up on her hind legs and scratched desperately at the wooden surface. She meowed loudly and insistently, hoping someone would hear.

At last, the door creaked open. On the threshold stood a man in his sixties, wearing a wool sweater and slippers. He frowned, expecting to see a neighbor or a passerby seeking shelter. But when he saw the drenched cat, he was surprised:
— What do you want, little one? — he said softly, bending down. — Hungry? Wait, wait…
He returned with a piece of bread and placed it at her feet. But the cat didn’t touch it. Instead, she lifted her head and stared at him intently, as if trying to tell him something important. Her eyes seemed to beg: “Come with me.”
Suddenly, she turned sharply and ran down the street, meowing loudly and looking back constantly to make sure the old man was following.
The man, though puzzled, grabbed his coat and went after her. And then he saw something terrifying, which immediately made him understand the reason for the cat’s strange behavior. To be continued in the first comment

The cat led him through courtyards until they reached an old pit, half-filled with rainwater.
The old man froze: on the water’s surface, a tiny kitten was struggling to stay afloat. His little paws were weak, and he was about to sink. The mother cat circled in despair, but couldn’t help.
— My God… — whispered the man, and without hesitation, he rushed to the pit. He pulled out the trembling, barely breathing kitten and held it gently against his chest. The soaked cat ran to them at once, licking her baby while never taking her eyes off the man.
That night, the old man didn’t let them return to the streets. He wrapped the kitten in a towel, warmed it by the stove, and poured milk for the mother. She stayed beside him the whole time — her eyes full of gratitude and trust.
