My mother-in-law caused a real scandal on my birthday because of my husband’s expensive gift: I had to put her in her place

Yesterday was my birthday. My husband and I invited all our close ones: my parents, friends, as well as his parents and his sister with her husband. The evening was light and cheerful — the house was filled with laughter, conversations, and music. Everything seemed perfect.

When it was time for gifts, I was as excited as a child. The first presents were pleasant and heartfelt. My parents gave me an envelope with money, saying it was for fulfilling any dream of mine. My husband’s sister gave me cosmetics, and my mother-in-law — always practical — gave me a towel.

And then came the moment when my husband handed me a small box. I opened it — and gasped. A gold ring with a diamond. Exactly the one I had dreamed of for years.

— “But this is so expensive…” I whispered.

— “Nothing is too much for you,” my husband smiled.

I hugged and kissed him, happier than ever. But at that very moment, the celebration suddenly changed.

— “So we don’t have food at home, and you buy such expensive gifts for your wife?” — my mother-in-law snapped.

— “Mom, I’ve been saving for this ring for a long time. The money is there, don’t worry,” my husband replied calmly.

— “Your sister is renovating her house, you should have helped her instead of wasting money on nonsense,” she went on.

— “But today is my birthday!” — I couldn’t hold back anymore.

— “And he’s never given his own mother anything!” — my mother-in-law shouted.

She was yelling louder and louder, accusing me and my husband, calling us ungrateful and shameless. The guests froze in shock, no one dared to interfere.

And at one point I couldn’t take it anymore and did something that made my mother-in-law deeply regret her behavior 😱🫣 Continued in the first comment 👇👇

I took the ring off my finger and threw it with all my strength right at her face.

— “Choke on it!” I said. — “The most important thing is that I have a loving husband by my side. And you clearly never knew true love or received gifts from your husband, if you’re so jealous. It’s not about the money — you’re just a spiteful, envious woman.”

The silence in the room became deafening. My mother-in-law, red with anger, stood up abruptly and left, slamming the door behind her.

I sat back down at the table, but my smile slowly faded away. Inside me, anger and pain were mixing. The joy of the gift had vanished. And now I wonder: did I go too far? Maybe I shouldn’t have stooped to her level?..
